Market Maker Surveillance Report. EMIS, CSTR, PWER, EVBS, SCON, CPX, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Friday, Febr
February 4, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2659 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2590 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2524 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. EMISPHERE TECHNOLOGIES INC (OTCBB:EMIS), COINSTAR INC (NASDAQ:CSTR), POWER-ONE INC (NASDAQ:PWER), EASTERN VIRGINIA BANKSHARES (NASDAQ:EVBS), SUPERCONDUCTOR TECHNOLOGIES (NASDAQ:SCON), COMPLETE PRODUCTION SERVICES (NYSE:CPX). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction EMIS $-0.220 -11.76% 85,850 35.86% 153,521 64.14% -67,671 -3,076 CSTR $-5.280 -11.93% 5,503,770 48.63% 5,749,974 50.80% -246,204 -466 PWER $-2.500 -21.28% 17,184,877 48.37% 18,217,736 51.28% -1,032,859 -4,131 EVBS $-1.450 -27.62% 145,238 40.21% 209,539 58.01% -64,301 -443 SCON $-0.680 -21.79% 1,714,801 46.30% 1,972,410 53.25% -257,609 -3,788 CPX $-3.970 -13.82% 4,774,708 41.82% 5,438,967 47.64% -664,259 -1,673
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows CPX with a dollar loss Friday of $-3.97000 and a Friction Factor of -1,673 shares. That means that it only took 1,673 more shares of selling than buying to move CPX lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
