Market Maker Surveillance Report. KRE, BPOP, GE, BRCM, EEM, EWZ, Bearishly Biased Price Friction For Wednesday, February 2nd 2
February 2, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 2717 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2594 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2430 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. SPDR KBW REGIONAL BANKING ET (NYSE:KRE), POPULAR INC (NASDAQ:BPOP), GENERAL ELECTRIC CO (NYSE:GE), BROADCOM CORP-CL A (NASDAQ:BRCM), ISHARES MSCI EMERGING MKT IN (NYSE:EEM), ISHARES MSCI BRAZIL (NYSE:EWZ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
KRE $-0.240 -0.90% 2,858,088 99.33% 1,027,470 35.71% 1,830,618 Abnormal
BPOP $-0.020 -0.62% 8,469,971 62.02% 5,162,700 37.81% 3,307,271 Abnormal
GE $-0.090 -0.43% 20,090,599 47.62% 17,865,078 42.35% 2,225,521 Abnormal
BRCM $-2.620 -5.65% 19,456,394 51.73% 17,598,362 46.79% 1,858,032 Abnormal
EEM $-0.350 -0.75% 41,489,267 60.52% 32,161,728 46.91% 9,327,539 Abnormal
EWZ $-1.330 -1.78% 9,507,789 61.38% 7,122,493 45.98% 2,385,296 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Wednesday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows EWZ with 2,385,296 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-1.33000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
