January 27, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2719 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2652 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2364 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Thursday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. COHU INC (NASDAQ:COHU), MEDIA GENERAL INC -CL A (NYSE:MEG), HAWKINS INC (NASDAQ:HWKN), GREENHILL & CO INC (NYSE:GHL), MONARCH COMMUNITY BANCORP (NASDAQ:MCBF), BARNWELL INDUSTRIES INC (AMEX:BRN). To access Friction Factor, Naked Short Data and SqueezeTrigger Prices on all stocks please visit http://www.buyins.net .

Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     COHU $-1.480 -8.88% 150,795 44.17% 188,521 55.22% -37,726 -255
     MEG $-0.520 -9.09% 84,973 39.01% 118,367 54.34% -33,394 -642
     HWKN $-7.500 -16.26% 148,041 45.97% 170,884 53.06% -22,843 -30
     GHL $-8.450 -10.30% 802,866 44.85% 816,177 45.60% -13,311 -16
     MCBF $-0.410 -17.98% 34,056 33.29% 67,860 66.32% -33,804 -824
     BRN $-0.700 -9.78% 25,661 29.56% 44,603 51.37% -18,942 -271

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows BRN with a dollar loss Thursday of $-0.70000 and a Friction Factor of -271 shares. That means that it only took 271 more shares of selling than buying to move BRN lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
