January 10, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 2593 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2666 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2512 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. NISOURCE INC (NYSE:NI), HUDSON CITY BANCORP INC (NASDAQ:HCBK), PEOPLE'S UNITED FINANCIAL (NASDAQ:PBCT), PFIZER INC (NYSE:PFE), SPDR S&P 500 ETF TRUST (NYSE:SPY), ISHARES MSCI EMERGING MKT IN (NYSE:EEM). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     NI $-0.120 -0.66% 5,396,329 78.06% 1,330,105 19.24% 4,066,224 Abnormal
     HCBK $-0.140 -1.06% 9,103,490 83.96% 1,721,791 15.88% 7,381,699 Abnormal
     PBCT $-0.210 -1.51% 4,359,854 69.70% 1,880,325 30.06% 2,479,529 Abnormal
     PFE $-0.150 -0.82% 89,298,511 80.54% 17,194,779 15.51% 72,103,732 Abnormal
     SPY $-0.210 -0.17% 62,421,854 51.30% 56,090,950 46.09% 6,330,904 Abnormal
     EEM $-0.480 -1.02% 36,053,783 57.66% 29,486,164 47.16% 6,567,619 Abnormal

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Monday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows EEM with 6,567,619 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.48000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
