November 18, 2010 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2726 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3648 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1609 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the highest net sell volume on Thursday and lowest negative price Friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. LEVEL 3 COMMUNICATIONS INC (NASDAQ:LVLT), STERLING FINL CORP/SPOKANE (NASDAQ:STSA), ISHARES BARCLAYS 7-10 YEAR (NYSE:IEF), FORD MOTOR CO (NYSE:F), REGIONS FINANCIAL CORP (NYSE:RF), ISILON SYSTEMS INC (NASDAQ:ISLN). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     LVLT $-0.01 -0.900% 9,122,906 41.600% 12,794,107 58.340% -3,671,201 -4
     STSA $-0.02 -8.260% 6,414,183 36.670% 11,079,059 63.330% -4,664,876 -2
     IEF $-0.23 -0.240% 326,904 11.010% 2,646,388 89.150% -2,319,484 -100,847
     F $-0.54 -3.240% 107,976,784 42.320% 120,038,109 47.040% -12,061,325 -223,358
     RF $-0.23 -4.160% 48,335,074 38.740% 58,665,406 47.020% -10,330,332 -449,145
     ISLN $-0.01 -0.030% 2,684,636 37.540% 4,466,042 62.450% -1,781,406 -2

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have low price friction combined with more selling than buying (negative Net Volume) in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows ISLN down $-0.010 with a Friction Factor of -2 and a Net Volume of -1,781,406. That means that it takes 2 more shares of selling than buying to drop ISLN by one penny. On Monday the Market Makers allowed the stock to move down on heavier selling than buying (low negative friction).
