BRUSSELS, BELGIUM--(Marketwire - October 7, 2009) - WABCO Holdings Inc. (NYSE: [ WBC ]) [[ www.wabco-auto.com ]], a global technology leader and tier-one supplier to the commercial vehicle industry, today announced that WABCO supplies several technologies to the first hybrid bus manufactured in Spain which was also named "Bus of the Year 2009" by the national commercial vehicle industry.

Developed by Castrosua, a leading original equipment manufacturer of buses based in Spain, the Tempus is a serial electric-diesel hybrid-powered urban bus. It is capable of running free of carbon dioxide emission in restricted traffic zones and runs almost silently. It features an exclusively electric traction system and a regenerative braking system that recovers up to 30 percent of energy. Built with 100 percent recyclable materials, the Tempus hybrid bus has been successfully tested by EMT and TMB, the public transport operators located in Madrid and Barcelona respectively, among other municipalities nationally.

The award-winning Tempus hybrid bus is equipped with WABCO's electronic braking system (EBS) that integrates anti-lock braking (ABS) functions and automatic traction control (known also as ASR); an electronically controlled air suspension (ECAS) system, as well as an integrated vehicle tire pressure monitoring (IVTM) system. WABCO's IVTM system helps monitor air pressure of tires in real time enabling optimum level, resulting in significantly improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions.

In addition, Castrosua's Tempus hybrid bus earned a special mention in the internationally acclaimed Red Dot Design Award, the world's largest and most renowned industrial design competition, in recognition of the vehicle's leading combination of accessibility, security, comfort and functionality to meet the needs of urban passenger transport.

"We value WABCO's outstanding engineering, passion for innovation and highly reliable systems," said Antonio Barreiro, Castrosua Development Director. "WABCO contributes strongly to our success in Spain as we set a new standard in environmentally friendly urban bus transport."

"We congratulate Castrosua on winning prestigious national and international acclaim for their industry-leading Tempus hybrid bus," said Jesús de la Fuente, WABCO Sales Leader, Spain and Portugal. "WABCO is proud to partner with Castrosua as we strive to help commercial vehicles become even safer, greener and quieter."

"Castrosua's Tempus hybrid bus marks a breakthrough in urban ecology for transport operators, drivers and passengers alike," said Jean-Christophe Figueroa, WABCO Vice President, Vehicle Dynamics and Control. "In our leadership position as an integrator of commercial vehicle safety and control systems, we are moving forward faster on technologies that contribute to cleaner air and less impact on the environment."
