February 2, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 2717 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2594 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2430 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. US NATURAL GAS FUND LP (NYSE:UNG), CBS CORP-CLASS B NON VOTING (NYSE:CBS), MITSUBISHI UFJ FINL GRP-ADR (NYSE:MTU), DEL MONTE FOODS CO (NYSE:DLM), TIME WARNER INC (NYSE:TWX), ATLAS ENERGY INC (NASDAQ:ATLS). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     UNG $0.100 1.69% 7,775,419 45.34% 9,462,776 55.18% -1,687,357 Abnormal
     CBS $0.030 0.15% 3,627,243 37.98% 4,988,950 52.24% -1,361,707 Abnormal
     MTU $0.160 3.08% 3,226,330 37.02% 5,024,698 57.65% -1,798,368 Abnormal
     DLM $0.010 0.05% 194,562 8.07% 2,178,766 90.41% -1,984,204 Abnormal
     TWX $2.710 8.40% 11,156,614 43.09% 12,361,552 47.74% -1,204,938 Abnormal
     ATLS $0.140 0.31% 1,382,329 25.27% 4,076,695 74.52% -2,694,366 Abnormal

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Wednesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows ATLS with 2,694,366 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.14000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
